Hand of Silver, Poisoned Eye: Tales from the Cath Maige Tuired

  • The Story Parlor 227 Haywood Road Asheville, North Carolina, 28806 United States (map)

A single eye that incinerates all it beholds. A maimed king struggling to support his people. A grieving sister gathering sacred herbs. Magicians, poets, oracles, magical cows, enchanted wells from which the wounded emerge whole. The Cath Maige Tuired is a rich cycle of stories full of powerful imagery and heartbreaking currency—stories that remind us we are not alone in our struggles, however terrifying the present moment may be. Our ancestors have left these stories as breadcrumbs, a trail we can follow to learn how others navigated sorrowful times before us.

In depth storytelling, ancient myths and tales are interwoven with music, poetry, and questions for the listener so that we can reflect on and embody the story, quilting it to the present moment and finding echoes of ourselves within it.

This event will be a fundraiser for the Once and Future Forest, whose mission is to germinate seeds from the remaining mother trees of the Irish forest and plant them along the route of a bronze age pilgrimage trail that traverses the breadth of Ireland.

Join us at the Story Parlor for old-growth conversation and soulful storytelling on this autumnal equinox.
